
Detroit Tigers Designated Hitter Gary Sheffield To Begin ML Rehab with Flying Tigers Today

Lakeland, FL - Detroit Tigers designated hitter, Gary Sheffield will begin a major league rehab assignment with the Flying Tigers on Monday in Sarasota against the Sarasota Reds. Sheffield is expected to play in Lakeland for the Flying Tigers when the team returns to Joker Marchant Stadium on Thursday, June 19th at 7:00 p.m. against the Tampa Yankees. He is anticipated to be with the Flying Tigers for one week. Sheffield suffered a strained oblique on Monday, May 26th against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. At the time, he was batting .213 with 29 hits, 7 doubles, 3 home runs, and 12 RBI. In 2007, Sheffield became only the seventh player in major league history to total at least 2,500 hits, 450 home runs, 1,500 RBI, and 200 stolen bases. This Thursday, June 19th will be USO Night. All active military will receive free admission, and beers and sodas will be sold for $1.
