LOS ANGELES - A series of special theme dates, including "Mother/Daughter and Girl Scout Night" and "Dads & Daughters Night," highlight the Los Angeles Sparks 2008 WNBA home schedule, it was announced.

All 17 Sparks' home games include themes. Theme activity begins with the "Battle of the Bands" at the Friday, June 6 home opener at 7:30 p.m. with the defending WNBA champion Phoenix Mercury. Other June theme highlights include "Senior Night" on Friday, June 13 vs. Connecticut and "Mother/Daughter and Girl Scout Night" on Sunday, June 22 vs. Indiana.

The July theme schedule includes "Camp Day" on Tuesday, July 1 vs. New York, "Survivor Night" on Sunday, July 6 vs. Phoenix and "Pay It Forward" on Monday, July 14 vs. San Antonio. Highlighting the August theme dates is "Fiesta Night" on Saturday, Aug. 30 vs. San Antonio.

September's theme dates include "Back to School" on Monday, Sept. 1 vs. Minnesota and "Fan Appreciation Day" on Sunday, Sept. 14 vs. Seattle.

"We are trying to include something for everyone with our 2008 theme date activities," said Sparks' co-owner Kathy Goodman. "We want everyone attending a Sparks' game to have a great time and come away with the feeling that they want to return."

The Sparks opened their 2008 WNBA regular season May 17 with a nationally-televised victory at the defending champion Phoenix Mercury. After a five-game opening trip that also includes stops at the expansion Atlanta Dream, Indiana, Washington and Chicago, the Sparks play their home opener against the Mercury.

The 2008 Sparks schedule features a total of 34 regular-season games, 17 of which will take place on Lisa Leslie Court at STAPLES Center between May and September. The Sparks will play in-conference rivals three or four times in the regular season and out-of-conference foes on two occasions.

With more than 25 players expected to compete during the 2008 Olympic Summer Games in Beijing, China (Aug. 8-24), the league has not scheduled any games between July 28 - Aug. 27. Instead, the WNBA season will be extended by three weeks, so WNBA players can represent their home countries in the 2008 Games. WNBA teams and players will remain active in the communities while on hiatus from regular-season action. Sparks players not competing in the Olympics will participate in a variety of community-based events and activities designed to give fans a unique opportunity to interact with their favorite WNBA teams.

The second half of the season will tip-off on Aug. 28 as the Sparks play host to the Sacramento Monarchs at STAPLES Center at 7:30 p.m. The regular-season schedule concludes Sept. 14, with the playoffs scheduled to begin on Sept. 18.
