Salem RidgeYaks News Release

Salem, VA-The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, tripped in the series finale against Frederick Thursday night 8-0 on Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. It was the first time this season the Avs have been blanked.

Frederick scored in all but three innings in the game. In the first, Corey Bass struck Danny Figueroa out then had Frederick bash three straight singles which culminated in a Brandon Tripp RBI single. In the second, Paul Winterling doubled Brandon Snyder home and came across three batters later on a Chris Amador single. The third saw an RBI groundout from Billy Rowell to score Brandon Tripp and make the score 4-0.

In the fifth, Bass left and Chris Salamida entered. On an 0-2 pitch, Matt Wieters blasted a ball over the center-field fence for a 5-0 lead. Frederick added a pair more on a two-run double from Amador for a 7-zero edge. The final tally came across in the eighth as Danny Figueroa's sacrifice fly scored Brandon Snyder.

Salem and Frederick split the series of four to begin the Avs' seven-game homestand. The Avalanche welcomes Potomac to the Roanoke Valley Thursday for a 7:07 PM start. Righty Adrian Alaniz faces Salem's David Qualben.
