Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Tucson, AZ - The Sidewinders edged out Memphis 7-4 thanks to a late home-run by Josh Whitesell on Monday night.
Memphis' Joe Mather hit a solo shot to left to give the Redbirds an early 1-0 lead. The Sidewinders captured the lead when Emilio Bonifacio hit a lead off triple in the bottom of the first. The next batter Alex Romero drove in Bonifacio with a single and was later brought in by a Jamie D'Antona double.
Tucson added two more in the second from a Bonifacio grounder scoring Trent Oeltjen from third and an Alex Romero RBI single gave the Sidewinders a 4-1 early lead.
A Josh Phelps RBI double and a two RBI single by D'Angelo Jimenez helped Memphis tie the game in the fourth inning.
Tucson's Josh Whitesell came to the plate with two men on in the bottom of the 8th and delivered a three-run jack to right that gave the Sidewinders the lead for good.
