Clevenger's Bomb Lifts Tennessee, 6-4

Chattanooga, TN - The Tennessee Smokies (14-20) made it three of four over the Lookouts (18-16) by taking Thursday Night's game 6-4, in front of 2,031 at AT&T Field in Chattanooga. Steve Clevenger lined a three-run homerun to right field in the third inning off Lookouts starter James Avery. The blast gave Tennessee a 5-1 advantage and they would never look back. Tyler Colvin set the tables by reaching first to start the inning on a strike three wild pitch. Doug Deeds would then draw a walk with one gone. The Smokies jumped out early on Avery in the top of the first inning. Matt Camp rippled a triple into the right field corner leading of the game. Nate Spears then singled to send Camp home and he would eventually score giving the Smokies a 2-0 advantage. The Smokies added a sixth inning run to go up 6-3. James Russell started for the Smokies and pitched 4 innings. He walked five Lookouts but yielded just three hits and two earned runs, with five strikeouts.

Tanner Watson grabbed the win after going 2 innings of relief handling the fifth and sixth. Watson gave up four hits, two runs with two base on balls and two strike outs.

Grant Johnson walked two batters in the seventh to run the Smokies total number to nine. He kept Chattanooga off the board and turned the game over to Jim Henderson to start the eighth. Henderson locked down the Lookouts rest of the way to record his first save. He pitched the games final two innings with a strikeout.

The Smokies finish the series Friday, and will start Mitch Atkins (1-3), while Chattanooga counters with Ben Jukich (1-1).Tennessee returns to Smokies Park on Saturday, May 10, to face the Huntsville Stars.
