Providence Bruins News Release

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, the regular season points-champions of the American Hockey League, announced today that defenseman Kevin Schaeffer has been recalled from the ECHL's Reading Royals. With the move, the P-Bruins now have 29 players on their roster, including 16 forwards, 10 defensemen and three goaltenders.

Schaeffer, 23, returns to Providence following an 11-game playoff run with Reading, during which time he recorded a goal and three assists for his first career postseason points. The Royals' season came to an end Monday night, falling in Game 7 of their North Division Finals match-up with the Cincinnati Cyclones. The blue-liner was loaned to Reading on April 15 following a 31-game call-up to the AHL, where he registered a goal and an assist.

Schaeffer originally joined Providence from Reading on December 15, 2007 after beginning his rookie campaign with seven points on two goals and five assists in 19 games. The blue-liner made his P-Bruins debut versus the Lowell Devils on the night of his recall, earning his first career AHL point with an assist. Schaeffer's first AHL goal came on January 25 against the Springfield Falcons.

Prior to turning pro, Schaeffer spent the last four seasons playing for the Boston University Terriers. In his collegiate career, the first-year blue-liner had 54 points, including 37 helpers, in 152 contests. Schaeffer, a native of South Huntington, New York, was drafted by the Nashville Predators 193rd overall in the sixth round of the 2004 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

The 2008 Calder Cup Playoffs continue with Game 6 of the Atlantic Division Finals versus the Portland Pirates on Friday at 7:05 p.m. at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The Pirates lead the best-of-seven series 3-2. Should the P-Bruins force a Game 7, it will be played Saturday night at The Dunk, also at 7:05 p.m. To purchase tickets or for more information, call the P-Bruins ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or log on to the team website at www.providencebruins.com. Tickets may be purchased in person by visiting the Dunkin' Donuts Center Box Office or all TicketMaster outlets.
