
Klosterman, Snider bang HRs in 6-4 loss to Rock Cats

New Britain, CT- Ryan Klosterman led off the third inning with a solo home run, and Travis Snider stroked a lead-off home run in the top of the fourth inning, but the New Britain Rock Cats scored four runs on six hits in the bottom of the fifth inning to rally past the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 6-4, Saturday night at New Britain Stadium.
Klosterman (1-for-3, HR, R, RBI, BB), who homered in the ninth inning Friday night, launched Jay Rainville's first pitch of the top of the third inning over the left field fence for his third home run of the season, tying the score 1-1.
Snider (1-for-3, HR, RBI) took a 1-2 offering from Rainville over the right-centerfield wall for his second home run of the season, giving New Hampshire a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning.
New Britain (15-12) took command in the bottom of the fifth inning against losing pitcher Brandon Magee. Drew Butera (2-for-4, R) and Luke Hughes (4-for-5, 2B, 2 R) hit back-to-back singles with one out and scored on Dustin Martin's two-run triple. Matt Moses (1-for-4, 2B, RBI) added an RBI double to right field, and Trevor Plouffe (1-for-3, RBI, BB) followed with a run-scoring single that gave the Rock Cats 5-2 lead.
The lead was increased to 6-2 in the sixth inning when David Winfree (1-for-4, RBI, BB) scored Martin (2-for-5, 3B, 3 RBI, 2 R, SB) with a single off Mike Gallo.
New Hampshire (9-18) climbed to within 6-4 in the top of the eighth inning when Aaron Mathews (1-for-3, BB, R) led off with a walk against Jay Sawatski. Ryan Patterson (1-for-4, R) greeted reliever Danny Graves with a single, and Jacob Butler (1-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI, BB) knocked in both runners with a double to the wall in straightaway centerfield.
Rainville (2-3) earned the win, allowing two runs on five hits on five innings. The right-hander struck out five and walked one.
Armando Gabino worked around a ninth inning walk to record his second save.
Magee (0-4) allowed five runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings to suffer the defeat. He struck out four and walked two.
New Britain jumped ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning when Hughes doubled to right field and scored on Martin's single to center off Magee.
The Fisher Cats and Rock Cats wrap up their three-game series Sunday afternoon at 1:35pm. New Hampshire left-hander Ricky Romero (1-2, 5.61) gets the start against New Britain right-hander Oswaldo Sosa (1-2, 5.75). Coverage begins at 1:15pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Mike Murphy.
