LAS VEGAS - Kevin Howard hit a grand slam and John Lindsey added a two-run homer as part of an eight-run sixth inning for the Las Vegas 51s, who cruised to an 18-2 victory over the Portland Beavers Saturday night at Cashman field.

Terry Tiffee, the league's leading hitter, was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two walks and four runs scored, while A.J. Ellis and John-Ford Griffin each drove in three runs for the 51s, who amassed 21 hits to help them beat the Beavers for a seventh straight time at Cashman Field.

Las Vegas starter Jason Johnson (2-2) limited Portland to two runs (one earned) on three hits and struck out four in six innings for the win, sending the Beavers to their sixth straight defeat.

It was the largest margin of defeat for the Beavers in their eight seasons back in the Pacific Coast League.

Already up 6-2, Las Vegas sent 14 batters to plate in the sixth, with the first nine batters reaching base against reliever Josh Banks, who gave up eight runs and 10 hits in his second appearance for Portland.

Enrique Gonzalez took the loss for the Beavers, yielding six runs (2 earned) and five hits while striking out six over four innings.

Eight different players recorded multi-hit nights for the 51s (12-10), who got out to a big lead with a four-run rally in the first inning off Gonzalez (0-1), who was making his first start for the Beavers (7-13). Las Vegas loaded the bases and, with two outs, plated a two runs each on a double by Griffin and a single from Ellis.

Jody Gerut was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Beavers.
