COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps, in conjunction with the Detroit Tigers, announced that Tigers center fielder Curtis Granderson is scheduled to play his first game of the season with the Whitecaps in a Minor League rehab assignment Friday against Burlington at 6:35 p.m.

Granderson began the season on the disabled list after fracturing his right middle finger on March 22 in a spring training game. The 27-year-old center fielder is in his fifth season with the Tigers and is coming off his best season in the Majors in 2007 when he became the second player ever in Major League history to have at least 30 doubles, 20 triples, 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases.

After Friday's rehab game, Granderson is expected to head to Triple-A Toledo for two games on Saturday and Sunday.

Granderson hit .302 with 23 home runs last season and has a .280 career batting average with 36 triples, 50 homers in 373 career games with Detroit. He was drafted by the Tigers in the third round of the June 2002 draft and made his Major League debut in 2004.
