St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN (April 8, 2008) - The St. Paul Saints master of ceremonies is similar to a ringleader taking charge of the circus. In 2008 the Saints will turn to someone who has experience in front of the home crowd, as Joe Wiener will take over the duties.
Wiener began with the Saints in 2003 as one of the original Ushertainers, known as the Patron Saint of Baseball History and in 2004 became Statman, his current character. He also became the head writer among the ushertainers.
Some of Wiener's more prominent roles during between-inning promotions include The Trojan War in 90 Seconds, The Real Mike Veeck Story, Hamlet by Numbers and hosting "Are You Smarter Than Your Parent?"
Wiener recently finished a production of King Lear where he played the Earl of Gloucester and has appeared in commercials.
"Joe has been a part of our family for a while and knows what the Saints and, more importantly, our fans are all about. He brings a good mix of creativity, sense of humor, and knowledge of the game to the table. We expect that he will do a tremendous job," said Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Derek Sharrer. "With Joe on the dugout and a diverse group of ushertainers who add something different to the overall ballpark experience, we expect this season to be the best one yet."
Many familiar faces are returning to entertain Saints crowds this season. Super Fan, known for leading the crowd in the roller coaster and Seigo, who makes all the women swoon with his dulcet tones, will once again return. Joining them will be Mrs. Stepford, The Nerd, Maddie the Newsy, Guy Tracy and Danger Boy.
Organist Andy Crowley returns for his sixth season high atop his perch at Midway Stadium entertaining the crowd with his timely music appropriate for any hitter, pitcher or situation.
The Saints begin their 16th season on May 8 when they take on the Wichita Wingnuts at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are $12 for reserved seats, $8 for bleacher reserved and $5 for general admission. Fans can purchase tickets by contacting the Saints Box Office at 651-644-6659 or visiting saintsbaseball.com.
