MANCHESTER, NH - The Los Angeles Kings, the parent club of the Manchester Monarchs, have assigned forward John Zeiler to the Monarchs and have assigned goaltender Daniel Taylor to the Reading Royals (ECHL), Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi today announced. In addition, the Monarchs have assigned defenseman P.J. Atherton to the Royals, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced today.
Zeiler, 25, has one assist and 23 penalty minutes in 36 games with the Kings this season. With the Monarchs, he has eight points (4-4=8) and 31 penalty minutes in 39 games this season. The 6-foot, 193-pound native of Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, has appeared in 59 career NHL games - all with the Kings - and has four points (1-3=4) and 45 penalty minutes. Zeiler signed with the Kings as an unrestricted free agent on February 17, 2007.
Taylor, 21, made his Kings/NHL debut yesterday, allowing two goals in one period. Taylor, who was recalled by the Kings on Thursday under emergency conditions, has also played in 23 games with the Monarchs this season, and has recorded a 13-5-2 record, four shutouts, a 2.40 goals-against-average and a .921 save percentage. In addition, he has played in three games with Reading, where he went 3-0-0 with a 2.64 goal-against-average and a .917 save percentage. The 5-foot-11, 179-pound Taylor, was originally selected by the Kings in the seventh-round (221st overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, is a native of Plymouth, England.
Atherton, 25, appeared in nine games with the Monarchs this season and recorded three assists, eight penalty minutes and a plus-2 rating. He has also played in 53 games with the Royals this season and collected 40 points (15-25=40) and 50 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound native of Edina, Minnesota, missed six games in February due to injury but remained among the ECHL's defensive leaders with 40 points, currently ranked eighth in the league. Atherton played in 16 games with the Springfield Falcons over the last two season and collected six points (2-4=6) and six penalty minutes. Prior to turning pro, Atherton played four seasons (2002-06) of hockey at the University of Minnesota and recorded 17 points (5-12=17) and 146 penalty minutes in 106 games.
