Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON - The Charleston RiverDogs, the Class-A affiliate of the 26-time World Series Champion New York Yankees, have announced their broadcast schedule for the 2008 season. Once again, all 140 games will be available to listen to on the radio or via the Internet.
At least 120 games can be heard in the Lowcountry over the AM airwaves on the Kirkman Broadcasting family of networks. The RiverDogs' flagship radio station will be ESPN Radio 910 AM "The Team," WTMZ, for the fourth straight season, with a few select games being broadcast on Real 1340 AM and CNN Radio 1450 AM.
All 140 RiverDogs contests will be streamed on the Internet live and on archive. For the first time, Minor League Baseball Advanced Media (BAM) will serve as the online-streaming provider for RiverDogs broadcasts. Fans can visit www.riverdogs.com and click on the appropriate link to receive the live audio feed.
Play-by-play broadcaster Josh Maurer returns for his fourth season as the "Voice of the RiverDogs." Danny Reed, who is in his first season with the RiverDogs, will serve as the pre- and post-game show host, as well as play-by-play voice for select broadcasts.
Several wrinkles have been added this season, including a pregame interview and/or feature that will take place in the concourse of Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park during select home games and be displayed on the park's video board.
Each radio broadcast will begin with the "Dunkin Donuts Pregame Show" at the top of the hour before the first pitch. The only exception will be Saturday home games, when the radio team will host "Dog Talk" beginning at 6:30 p.m.
As part of the postgame show, the radio team will interview the GEICO Most Valuable Player of the Game on the field after every victory. Each RiverDogs radio broadcast will feature an interactive contest with the winner determined during the "Dunkin Donuts Postgame Show."
Most home broadcasts throughout the season will feature celebrity commentators, which include local broadcast and print media members in addition to several Charleston-area notables. Guests will include Tony Ciuffo, the veteran College of Charleston play-by-play broadcaster, Voice of The Citadel Bulldogs Robby Robinson and The Post and Courier's award-winning columnist Ken Burger, to name a few.
"These new additions can't help but improve our radio broadcasts," said Maurer. "Those, mixed with the addition Danny Reed, and the return of our celebrity commentators, will make our broadcasts among the most entertaining in Minor League Baseball."
The first broadcast of the 2008 season will take place Thursday, April 3 when the RiverDogs take on the Rome Braves at State Mutual Stadium. Air time begins at 7 p.m. and can be heard on ESPN Radio 910 AM.
