SURPRISE, AZ - Tied with the Portland Beavers 3-3 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning Sunday, the Omaha Royals scored two runs and posted a 5-3 victory. The win improves Omaha's record in Cactus League action to 6-2-1.

Nick Van Stratten led off the eighth with a single for his second hit of the day and wound up scoring the first of the two runs, which were aided by a pair of Portland errors. In his first at-bat of the game, Van Stratten drilled a leadoff triple in the second and scored on a sacrifice fly to give Omaha an early 3-0 lead. The Royals came out swinging in the first inning, collecting three of their seven hits on the day, including Chris Lubanski's two-run double.

Veteran big leaguer Brandon Duckworth started for Omaha, tossing two hitless innings, allowing a walk while striking out three. Brian Lawrence worked five frames, giving up three runs - two of them earned - on five hits and two walks, with three K's. Joe Augustine got the win, firing two scoreless stanzas and yielding one hit.

Omaha faces the Oklahoma RedHawks, Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, on Monday at the Spring Training complex that the Royals and Rangers organizations share in Surprise, Arizona.

The Royals 2008 season opener is set for Rosenblatt Stadium on Thursday, April 3rd at 7:05 p.m. vs. the Albuquerque Isotopes. For tickets, call the Royals ticket office at (402) 738-5100, or order and print tickets online at www.oroyals.com and at www.Etix.com.
