Flint Generals News Release
FLINT, MI - Perani Arena and Event Center was just the tonic the Flint Generals needed on Friday night as they held on to beat the Kalamazoo Wings 2-1 in a thrilling contest.
It was the Generals first win at home since late February and it vaulted them back into sole possession of third place in the International Hockey League standings. Flint won its 15th game at home and 28th overall and it also stopped a three-game winless slide.
The fans were treated to an exciting game as the Generals played aggressively at both ends of the rink, finishing their body checks and clearing pucks out of the defensive zone.
There was no scoring in the opening 20 minutes the Generals missed a huge chance when they couldn't score on a four minute power play.
In the second period, Kalamazoo scored the first goal with just eight minutes played. However, the Gens roared back to tie the game when Jordan Fox pushed the puck across the goal line on a 5 on 3 power play from Nick Tuzzolino and Shaun Fisher. Fox had a solid two-way game finishing his checks at both ends of the ice. The Generals scored what proved to be the game winning goal via a second power play goal when Jason Cirone fired a loose puck in behind the Kalamazoo netminder Jeff Reyaert who suffered his first loss to Flint this season. Josef Fojtik and Mike Kinnie added assists on the goal.
There were several scraps in the game including Mike Kinnie and Mike Manley. Eric Marvin was outstanding in net turning aside 27 of 28 shots he faced and notched his 18th victory of the season.
The Flint Generals close out the Easter Weekend with a game tomorrow (Saturday) night back at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum against the Fort Wayne Komets. The Generals will attempt to stop the streak of the Komets which stands at 21 consecutive home wins and are one away from equaling a mark set during the 1965-66 season. The face-off in Fort Wayne is set for 7:30 pm.
Fans can tune into the game on Unforgettable 1470 WFNT and www.flintgenerals.com beginning with The Generals Pre-Game Report Protected by Teachout Security at 7:10 pm. Denis J. Puska brings you the exciting action at 7:30 pm. Video coverage is provided by the B2 Networks and for $6 fans can watch the game live on the internet, but a high speed internet connection is required in order to view the game.

More than 3,400 school children are expected to attend the game. There are limited tickets available and for further information contact the Generals Corporate Office at 742-9422.
