There were better weather conditions for the second game of the Carolina Challenge Cup for Toronto FC, but not by much as gusty winds played a big part in their second game of the tournament. Their Eastern Conference opponents coming off a draw with the Charleston Battery on Sunday after their match Saturday was called due to bad weather in Charleston.

Unlike their first game against San Jose, Toronto had an early chance that resulted in the first goal of the game. 10th minute, Kevin Harmse played a ball up ahead into the middle for Jeff Cunningham, Cunningham ended up with space and ended up one on one against Red Bulls keeper Jon Conway. With the keeper out to challenge, the forward was able to poke it into the empty net giving the Reds the 1-0 lead.

New York with a chance 10 minutes later as Oscar Echeverry got things moving down the left side, he managed to get past the last defender - and broke in on goal, but his shot was corralled by Brian Edwards who got the start for Toronto. Shortly after, a run in between Juan Pablo Angel and Julius James - resulted in an early exit for James as he would leave the field with what was later diagnosed as a shoulder injury. He was replaced by Pat Phelan in the 23rd, there was no immediate word on how serious the injury was to Toronto's first draft pick. Right before halftime, Cunningham played a great little chip ahead to Collin Samuel who ran right through the middle and hammered a shot that just went wide of the goal that had Conway diving. The chance almost doubled Toronto's lead but they went to the locker room up 1-0.

Red Bulls made three changes to start the second half, while Toronto remained unchanged. After a great defensive play by Marshall in the Toronto end to stop what might have been a goal, action went right back the other way. A right sided cross from Brittain bounced through the six yard box and Todd Dunivant played it off the bounce, but Thornton was quick with the reflexes to make the save.

74th minute, New York broke through on a great play that was started by Claudio Reyna as he sent in Wolyniec and he fired a rocket to the top corner beating the young Edwards in goal to level it at 1 a piece. 10 minutes from time, Angel almost put New York ahead with a right footed shot from the top of the box, it beat Edwards, but not the post and stayed out, and that would be how the game would finish.

Toronto will wrap up their second appearance in the Carolina Challenge Cup on Saturday when the face the host Battery. Game time once again will be 6p.m. while New York and San Jose finish off the tournament in the 8:15 p.m. start.

The team will enjoy an off-day Thursday before getting back to the practice field on Friday.
