Wranglers' Curry Named Rbk Hockey Goalie Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Las Vegas rookie John Curry is the Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for October 18-21.

The 23 year old is under contract to the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League, who assigned him to Las Vegas after he attended training camp with Pittsburgh and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.

In his first professional start at Fresno on Oct. 19, the 5-foot-11 and 185-pound netminder stopped 33 of 34 shots, including all 14 in the first period, for a 2-1 overtime win. He stepped back between the pipes on Oct. 21 and made 23 saves in a 4-1 win against Stockton that extended the Wranglers regular season winning streak to 15 games, dating back to Mar. 10.

The Sherwood, Minn. native played the last four seasons at Boston University and was the starting goaltender each of his last three years after walking on to the team as a freshman. He was 59-29-15 with 13 shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.08 and a save percentage of .923 in 107 games.

Curry was named First Team All-American and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker award in 2006-07, going 17-10-8 with seven shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.01 and a save percentage of .928 in 36 games. He was 24-8-4 with three shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.24 and a save percentage of .918 in 37 games.

Runners Up: Justin Peters, Florida (2-0-0, 1.00 GAA, .963 save pct.) and Cody Rudkowsky, Phoenix (2-0-0, 2.00 GAA and .938 save pct.).
