Z's get swept in Fresno

August 8, 2007 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) - New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release


The West Coast was not kind to the New Orleans Zephyrs as the Z's dropped its fourth consecutive game on Wednesday evening in Fresno, California. Fresno starting pitcher Matt Kinney combined with two other pitchers to shut out the Zephyrs 7-0 at Chukchansi Field. New Orleans was swept in the series for the second sweep of the season by an opponent and the Z's were shutout for the fourth time this season. Fresno put together a two out rally in the second inning scoring four times off of starting pitcher Jason Vargas. Fresno starting pitcher Matt Kinney was steller on the mound and had a pair of RBI singles at the plate. Fred Lewis raced around the bases in the fourth inning with an inside the park home run. The loss is the Z's fourth consecutive and the sixth in their last seven games.

Game Notes: The first place Zephyrs hold a two game lead on Oklahoma for the top spot in the division .....Fernando Tatis snapped a seven game hit streak .... The Zephyrs acquired outfielder Chad Hermansen from the Florida Marlins organization. Hermansen, a former 1st round pick of the Pirates joined the Z's he was batting .283 with 46 runs scored 15 doubles, 9 HR and 44 RBI in 89 games with Triple A Albuquerque. ....He was 1x4 in the game .... Catcher Shawn Wooten has been assigned to Class AA Binghamton. ...

Coming Up: The Zephyrs will have their first off day in 29 days on Thursday ....Friday the Z's open a four game homestand against the Round Rock Express. Dave Williams pitches for the Z's on Friday and Chance Douglass starts for the Express in the 7:00 p.m. game at Zephyr Field.
