Jamel Staten Overseas

The Ripknees' Jamel Staten spent the spring playing ball in Saudi Arabia. He was there from April 18 to May 23, playing for the Saudi Arabian Al Ahli. Their competition ranged from Morrocco to Egypt to Lebanon. The Al Ahli beat the rival Saudi Arabian team in the semifinals to make it to the league championship. They ended up losing to a talented Lebanon team in the championship after being down and having the game forfeited due to unruly fans.

Jamel said that the league had some tough competition. There were some dirty players and plenty of fights. Half of the teams had about three Americans on their rosters, while the remaining spots were filled by Middle Easterners. The Ripknees are happy to have Jamel back from the Saudi heat in order to gear up for the upcoming season.
