Greensboro, NC-The Carolina League has announced today that Avalanche outfielder Mitch Einertson has been voted the Carolina League's Topps Player of the Month for May. Einertson was selected as the award winner in a poll of the league's eight managers.

The 21-year-old Einertson raised his average from .163 on the 1st of May to .321 on the 31st by compiling a .400 average (36-90) over his 27 games in the month. Twenty-seven of his team-leading 35 RBI in 2007 came during May.

"It's well deserved," Salem Manager Jim Pankovits said about Einertson's award. "Mitch was as hot as I have seen a hitter in some time. He's making a lot of progress by learning to be selective and using the entire field."

Einertson provided a hit in each of his final 12 games in May and appeared in each of Salem's final 18 games in the month. He helped the Avalanche to a 12-game win streak that began on the 22nd of the month. It fell just two shy of last year's 14-game string that was third-best in Carolina League history.

Einertson added 13 multi-hit games in May-five of which came in consecutive games between the 23rd and the 27th. He currently paces Salem with 11 two-hit games in 2007.

In his rookie season, the Oceanside, California native was named the Team MVP of the Astros' Appalachian League affiliate in Greeneville in 2004 after hitting .308 and clubbing 24 home runs along with 67 RBI.

Einertson was selected in the fifth round of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft by the Astros out of Rancho Buena Vista High School in Vista, California. He's in his fourth professional season.
