Bakersfield To Keep Jammin'May 17, 2007 - NBA Development League (D-League) - Bakersfield Jam Press Release
"We wanted to find out how the community felt about our team name and the answer was loud and clear - the Jam it is," says Michael Hirsch, Jam president and general manager. "It was important that the people of Bakersfield had a say in the name of their D-League team and now they have."
The Jam received over two-thirds of 1,167 votes cast since the team announced the contest two weeks ago on May 2. Results of the voting were as follows:
- Jam - 68.3 percent (798 votes)
- Roughnecks - 14.1 percent (165 votes)
- Desperados - 9.5 percent (112 votes)
- Oilers - 7.9 percent (92 votes)
With the Jam firmly entrenched as the team name, Hirsch indicated that fans should keep their eyes open for exciting, off-season announcements. "We are excited about rolling out some new marketing initiatives related to the Jam," he said. "Trust me when I tell you it's going to be a busy summer as we prepare for our second season of play."
The Jam would also like to congratulate Greg Porter of Bakersfield who was selected as the winner of the team jersey. Greg's name was chose from the 798 participants that voted for the Jam and will receive an authentic game jersey autographed by a player of his choice from next year's roster.
The Bakersfield Jam, members of the NBA D-League, play their home games at Rabobank Arena and offer the Bakersfield community a top-tier professional sports team at affordable prices.
