Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
ROCHESTER, NY - The Hamilton Bulldogs dropped a 3-1 decision to the Rochester Americans in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series on Saturday night at Blue Cross Arena. The best-of-seven North Division Semi-final series is now tied 1-1.
The teams exchanged power-play goals in the first period. After being shutout in Game 1, Rochester opened the scoring at the 6:24 mark when Janis Sprukts tallied the Amerks' first goal of the series. Mathieu Biron responded for the Bulldogs with his first goal of the playoffs at 10:09 from Danny Groulx and Cory Urquhart to even the score 1-1.
In the second period, Michael Ryan registered two goals to give the Americans a 3-1 lead. Just 33 seconds into the middle stanza, Ryan took a pass from Dylan Hunter and beat goaltender Carey Price with a high shot to the glove side. Ryan then gave the Amerks a two-goal cushion at the 10:17 mark on a power play with the game's eventual winning goal.
Despite out-shooting the Americans 12-8 in the third frame, the Bulldogs couldn't pull any closer as goaltender Craig Anderson shut the door to secure the Americans victory.
Between the pipes, Price made 29 saves on 32 shots in a losing effort for Hamilton, while Rochester's Anderson earned the win by turning aside 22 of the 23 shots he faced.
The Bulldogs were 1-for-5 on the power play and the Americans went 2-for-4 with the man advantage.
