Terry Ryan to Speak at Snappers Hot Stove BanquetJanuary 19, 2007 - Midwest League (MWL) Beloit Snappers
Ryan, a native of Janesville, Wisconsin and a 1972 graduate of Parker High School, is the fourth General Manager in team history. He is responsible for the team the Twins put on the field (40-man roster and 25-man major league roster), negotiating contracts, overseeing the coaching staff and the entire baseball operations department, including team travel and baseball communications. Ryan was recently honored as the Major League Executive of the Year by The Sporting News, an award he also won in 2002. In 2005, he was named as the Executive of the Year and the Twins were named Organization of the Year by Baseball America. Ryan was originally drafted by the Twins in the 35th round of the 1972 draft. He pitched in the Twins' minor league system for four seasons, posting a career 14-3 record. In 1973, he was 10-0 before an arm injury ended his career. Ryan graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in physical education. In 1980 he returned to baseball as the Midwest scouting supervisor for the New York Mets before being named the Twins' scouting director in January, 1986 and beginning his ascent in the Twins organization.
