Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The location on the dial for the Memphis RiverKings' radio broadcasts will remain unchanged for the team's 15th Anniversary season of 2006-2007. The Central Hockey League team is excited to announce today that it has reached agreement with Sports 56 WHBQ (AM 560) to be the flagship station of the Memphis RiverKings for the third consecutive season.
All 64 games this season will be broadcast live beginning with the season opener versus the Youngstown Steelhounds at the DeSoto Civic Center on October 20. The station will also air 14 "Kevin McClelland Shows" during the season. Like last season, the show is slated to air from six to seven p.m. on select Tuesdays. A couple of shows might be moved to a Wednesday night to avoid long stretches of when the show is pre-empted due to Tuesday games and team travel.
Jim Erickson will return for his third season as the RiverKings' play-by-play broadcaster and will also serve as host for the coach's show.
"This has been an extremely successful relationship the last two years and we are excited to continue it this upcoming season," Erickson said. "Being on Sports 56 gives us tremendous exposure in the local sports community. It is a great fit for the RiverKings organization."
Like last season, each game broadcast will begin with the pre-game show 20 minutes prior to face-off with a game preview and an interview with the head coach.
"We are extremely happy to continue our relationship with the Memphis Riverkings," WHBQ Program Director Eli Savoie said. "The Riverkings are a big part of the local community and we have an unmatched commitment to local sports and the community. We look forward to another great season together."
The broadcasts will also be available through audio streaming on the internet at www.sports56whbq.com. Listeners can also link to the internet broadcast via the RiverKings' homepage at www.riverkings.com.
In the case of a conflict with WHBQ's commitment to air Ole Miss sporting events, the RiverKings' game will be moved to another station in the Memphis Flinn Broadcasting Group. Last season, three games were moved to WYYL (96.1FM) due to conflicts.
This will be the seventh season overall that WHBQ has been the radio flagship of the RiverKings, the most of any Memphis radio station in the 15 year history of the team.
