
Buchanan, Rodaway named players of the week

DURHAM, NC-- Sportsticker, the American Association's official statistician, has chosen St. Paul OF Brian Buchanan and Lincoln LHP Brian Rodaway as Batter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the week of July 17-July 23.
Buchanan went 8-for-17 (.471 average) with three home runs, three doubles and 15 RBI as the Saints are currently tied for first in the second half at 9-7. Thursday, the Ft. Myers, FL native had a game for the ages as he went 5-for-5 with a home run, a run scored, and 9 RBI as St. Paul beat St. Joe 12-5. For the season, Buchanan is hitting .252 with four home runs, 24 RBIs, and 11 runs scored.
The 33-year-old is in his 13th season of professional baseball after being drafted in the first round by the New York Yankees in 1994. He spent four seasons in the Yankees organization, five with the Minnesota Twins where he reached the big league level in 2000, and over two seasons with the San Diego Padres. Last season with both Colorado Springs (Colorado Rockies) and Rochester (Minnesota Twins), he had a batting average of .307 with 14 home runs and 57 RBIs.
Rodaway is the fifth Saltdog player to be selected as Player of the Week this season. The Lincoln, NE native pitched an outstanding game this past Friday throwing a complete game allowing no runs on only two hits with eight strikeouts en route to a 9-0 victory over the Sioux City Explorers. Currently, Rodaway is 6-2 with a 2.66 ERA in 11 starts for the Saltdogs.
A 16th round pick of the Houston Astros in the 2001 draft, Rodaway spent four seasons in the Astros organization playing for Pittsfield, Michigan, Lexington, and Salem. Last season, Rodaway pitched for Lincoln, compiling a record of 8-7 with a 3.55 ERA and collected 113 strikeouts in 147 innings pitched.
