Patriots pitcher Jason Shiell signed by Atlanta Braves

Bridgewater, NJ - The Three-Time Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots have announced that right-handed pitcher Jason Shiell has been signed by the Atlanta Braves.

Shiell was among the Atlantic League leaders with a 3-2 record, a 2.92 ERA, and 32 strikeouts in 52.1 innings pitched in nine games started for the Patriots this season

Shiell has 20 games of Major League experience with the San Diego Padres and the Boston Red Sox.

He has a 2-0 career record in the Majors and last played with the Red Sox in 2003, where he was 2-0 with a 4.63 ERA in 17 games.

Shiell also has two seasons of Triple-A experience and a career 36-30 record, a 3.55 ERA, and 505 strikeouts in 218 games pitched.

Shiell will be assigned to the Richmond Braves, the Triple-A affiliate for Atlanta.

The Patriots have also announced the signing of left-handed pitcher Andy Pratt, who has been activated for Thursday evening's game.

Pratt has Major League experience for the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs as well as three seasons of Triple-A experience in the Braves, Cubs, and Milwaukee Brewers organizations.

He began the season in Double-A for the Brewers, where he pitched in 16 games before joining the Patriots.

The 2006 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Thursday evening with a 7:05 pm game against the Camden Riversharks. The game will feature a School's Out For Summer Fireworks Show presented by Audi of America.
