Lake County Captains News Release

(Eastlake, OH)--The Lakewood BlueClaws scored eight runs in the third inning Thursday afternoon and made the early lead stand up, as they defeated the Lake County Captains 10-8 at Classic Park.

It was the second straight win for the BlueClaws (24-22). The Captains (22-25) fell to three games under .500 for the first time this year. Lake County has lost six of its last seven games.

The Captains will try for a series split on Friday night at 7:05 in the final game of the homestand.

The BlueClaws sent 11 batters to the plate in the third inning, scoring eight runs on six hits against Captains starter Carlton Smith (1-2). Cooper Osteen and Fidel Hernandez had back-to-back two-run doubles and right fielder Sean Gamble slugged a two-run homer. Jermey Slayden and Lou Marson each chipped in an RBI single. The rally gave the BlueClaws a 10-4 lead, and ended Smith's day after three innings.

The Captains rallied for two in the third and two more in the eighth, but went down 1-2-3 in the ninth against Brett Harker, who posted his fifth save.

Justin Blaine was the winner for Lakewood. Blaine tossed four innings of shutout relief, giving up just one hit.

The Captains took a 3-0 lead in the first inning when Nick Petrucci hit a two-out, three-run homer off BlueClaws starter Maximo De La Cruz. It was Petrucci's second homer in as many days. He also homered in the first inning Wednesday night.

After the BlueClaws pulled to within 3-2 in the top of the second, the Captains made it 4-2 in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Niuman Romero.

Fireworks will follow the game on Friday night. For tickets, call 440-954-WINS.
