St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN - Jeremy Frost is hoping history repeats itself. In 2005, he posted career highs in nearly offensive category for the St. Paul Saints. In 2006, he gets a chance to do it again.
Frost is one of three signings announced today by Saints manager George Tsamis. In addition to the catcher, LHP Paul Lubrano (a former teammate of Frost) and rookie C Billy Cox also agreed to terms.
Ironically, Frost wasn't planning on behind the plate in St. Paul this summer. After hitting .278 with 17 home runs, 49 RBIs and 19 stolen bases last summer, his contract was purchased in January by Toronto. When the Blue Jays released at the end of training camp, Tsamis was very happy to welcome him back. "I'm sorry it didn't work for Jeremy with the Blue Jays. He had a very good season for us last year," he said. "He can hit, he can run and he's a good catcher."
Lubrano, 24, played with Frost for two seasons at Central Florida. He later transferred to Georgia, where he started 24 games over two seasons, including a game in the 2004 College World Series. A 33rd round pick of the Indians, he spent two years in their system, mostly as a short reliever. In 32 games, he has a career won-loss mark of 6-1 with an impressive 1.73 ERA.
Cox, 24, will be competing for a job as Frost's backup. He played two seasons at Northwestern Oklahoma State, the alma mater of current Seattle Mariners manager Mike Hargrove. In 100 college games, he finished with a .329 BA, 26 home runs, 20 doubles and 83 RBI. He was signed after attending the league-wide tryout camp last week in Fort Worth, TX.
Frost, Lubrano and Cox will be in St. Paul when training camp opens April 29. The Saints' preseason opener is currently set for Thursday, May 4 against Sioux Falls at 11:05 a.m. at Midway. The team opens its 14th regular season (but first in the American Association) May 12 at Sioux City. The regular season home opener is May 15 against St. Joseph at 7:05 p.m.
