Visalia Rawhide News Release

The Visalia Oaks head down the 99 to begin the season series against their Northern Division rival Bakersfield Blaze Monday evening. Monday will be the home opener for the Blaze. The Oaks' home opener is Friday April 14th against the Lake Elsinore Storm. The Oaks and Blaze are scheduled for 24 games this season, 11 of them at Recreation Park in Visalia. The Oaks were just 8-17 in their 25 games against the Blaze in 2005.

The San Jose Giants swept four games from Visalia to begin the 2006 season. Three of the four games were one-run affairs and other was decided by two runs so only five runs separated the two teams over the four games. The Oaks were shut out in Sunday's game, the second game of the doubleheader Saturday and the final two innings of game one, so the offense hasn't scored a run in 18 innings. On the other hand, the pitching has been strong. Oaks pitchers have allowed just three runs in those 18 innings and have a team ERA of 3.26 (11 ER/30.1 IP) after four games.

The Blaze dropped three games to Rancho Cucamonga over the weekend.
