Strong Island Sound sweep weekend set at home

January 22, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Strong Island Sound News Release

The Strong Island Sound rebounded from their two game losing skid and turned it around to a modest two game winning streak. They had a weekend set of games at Suffolk Community College in Selden, NY.

On Friday 1/20/06 the Sound defeated the first-place Newark Express by a score of 96-89. The home team led by double-digits for most of the second half and controlled the pace of the game. Celebrity Player Ed "Cookie" Jarvis even got into the action in the final minute of the game.

Head Coach Joe Medina was reserved following the win. "We're starting to come together. We haven't played our best basketball yet" stated Medina. "We're capable of playing with any team in the league. We need to build on it and come back strong tomorrow night"

Guard Lee Church followed that up with "We played a complete game tonight. We haven't had many this year. The earlier win at Rochester comes to mind as one. We knocked off the top team in our division because we played together. We had great coaching decisions from Joe Medina and Assistant Coach Dytanya Mixson. They gave us good minutes off the bench. We were a team tonight".

The Sound must have heeded the words of their head coach and came right back the following evening to defeat the Buffalo Rapids 113-99. The Rapids have been a hot team lately and the Sound were able to cool them off.

The Sound next face the Montreal Matrix on Saturday 1/28/06 at St. Joseph's College in Patchogue. This will be the first of 4 Strong Island Sound games to be heard on a live internet webcast on www.webradio.org . Play-by-play will be done by the CW Post Sports Department.

NOTE- The game originally scheduled for Friday 1/27/06 at the Boston Frenzy will be rescheduled due to a venue conflict in Boston.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
