SI writer and Vermont resident to own new ABA team

Vermont Frost Heaves News Release
Barre, VT. SPORTS ILLUSTRATED Senior Writer and Cornwall, VT resident Alexander Wolff has reserved the rights to establish an American Basketball Association (ABA) team in Vermont. It was announced by Mr. Wolff in a story written for this week's issue of SI.
The team, called the Vermont Frost Heaves, will begin playing in the Barre Memorial Auditorium next fall. Regular opponents of the Frost Heaves will include the Montreal Matrix, the Rochester RazorSharks, the Buffalo Rapids and the Boston Frenzy as well as additional New England area expansion teams.
Mr. Wolff will assume the titles of president and general manager. He will file regular dispatches with SPORTS ILLUSTRATED and SI.COM on the progress of the team. His wife, Vanessa, will be the team's assistant general manager.
"As almost everything Americans consume getsmore homogenized and shipped in from far farther away, Vermonters will respond to a team with homgrown players at its core, in the same way they shop at farmers' markets and listen to locally programmed radio," writes Mr. Wolff in this week's magazine. "The Frost Heaves will be built for both the 21st century and the state they call home: part reality series, part high-tech demonstration project, part New England town meeting, part local hero."
Mr. Wolff will conduct a press conference and unveil the team's logo at the Barre Auditorium on Wednesday, December 14th at 11am. The team's website, www.vermontfrostheaves.com will also go live on Wednesday. For more information, visit www.abalive.com or email alexander_wolff@simail.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
