"The Big Apple" Returns To St. Louis

November 16, 2005 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2) St. Louis Steamers

ST. LOUIS - The return of forward Mike Apple is among three roster moves made by the Steamers as Saturday's season-opener draws near. Steamers CEO Michael Hetelson announced the acquisition of Apple, midfielder Sandre Naumoski and forward Marcos Chantel today.

Mike "The Big Apple", a 6'1", 190-pound forward, was acquired from the Baltimore Blast in exchange for future considerations. He was was traded to the Blast in March along with defender Nate Houser for forward Carlos "Chile" Farias. Last season, Apple tallied 23 goals and 10 assists (33 points), in 23 games played for St. Louis and 8 for Baltimore. The 2005-06 season will be the third that Apple has worn a Steamers uniform. He joined the club in 2003-04, scoring 13 goals and 6 assists in 23 games played.

Midfielder Sandre Naumoski was acquired from the Chicago Storm in exchange for the playing rights to forward David Topolski. Naumoski appeared in 38 games for the Storm last season, contributing 14 goals, 11 assists and 11 blocks. Naumoski began his pro indoor soccer career with the Kansas City Comets during the 2003-04 season. He was the Comets' second-round pick in the MISL Amateur Draft out of Southern Nazarene University, where he earned First Team All-Conference honors during his senior year.

Forward Marco Chantel comes to the Steamers from the Baltimore Blast in exchange for the playing rights to defender Michael Lookingland. The 6'2", 180-pound native of Brazil appeared in 26 games for Baltimore last season, scoring seven goals and two assists. Prior to joining the MISL, Chantel played for Flamengo in the Coppa Brasil ( Brazilian "Premier League").

Apple and Chantel won't have a long wait to visit their former team. The Steamers open their 2005-06 campaign on the road Saturday, November 19 when they visit the Blast at 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore at 7:35 p.m. Baltimore is 1-0, having defeated the expansion California Cougars 9-4 in their home opener November 11.

Following Saturday's duel with the Blast, the Steamers will come home to Savvis Center for their home opener on Saturday, November 26 when they host the Philadelphia Kixx in a 1:05 p.m. affair.
