McCann named Marlins Minor League Player of the Year

(Greensboro, NC) The Florida Marlins have selected Greensboro Grasshoppers infielder Brad McCann as their Minor League Player of the Year. The announcement was made Sunday by Marlins Vice President of Player Development and Scouting and Assistant General Manager Jim Fleming.

McCann, 22, batted .295 with 28 HR and 106 RBI in 123 games with Single-A Greensboro this season, leading all Marlins minor leaguers in both home runs and runs batted in. McCann scored 67 runs and recorded 35 doubles, two triples and 37 walks. Selected by the Marlins in the sixth round of the June 2004 Draft out of Clemson University, this season marks his second in professional baseball. The Duluth, GA native batted .287 with 3 HR and 13 RBI in 28 games with Jamestown (Single-A) last year, and is .294 with 31 HR and 119 RBI in 151 games for his career.
