Steamers select 12 players in dispersal draft

St. Louis, MO, September 22, 2005 -St. Louis Steamers Team President Michael Hetelson, announced today that the team selected 12 players in today's Cleveland Force, Kansas City Comets Dispersal Draft.

The Steamers selected forward Anthony Maher from the Kansas City Comets with their first pick, fourth overall in today's draft. Maher scored 25 points (20 goals, five assists) for Kansas City last season, ranking seventh on the team in scoring.

St. Louis picked defender Genoni Martinez from the Cleveland Force with their second pick, 10th overall. Martinez led the MISL with seven restart goals and ranked fourth in the league with 157 shots. He scored 41 points (18 goals, 23 assists) with Monterrey and Cleveland.

"I am very pleased with the way things went today," said Steamers head coach Omid Namazi." I had focused on four guys in the first four rounds and was able to get two of them (Maher and Martinez), so I am very happy with that."

The Steamers selected midfielder Armando Valdivia from Kansas City with their third round pick, 16th overall. Valdivia tallied 17 points (four goals, 13 assists) with Monterrey and Kansas City last season.

Other St. Louis selections included goalkeeper Bayard Elfvin (Cleveland), defender Josh Timbers (Cleveland), midfielder Miodrag Djerisilo (Kansas City), defender Michael Lookingland (Cleveland), defender Mark Schulte (Cleveland), forward David Topolski (Cleveland), goalkeeper Chris D'Amico (Kansas City), defender Ryan Kelly (Cleveland) and midfielder Scott Kincaid (Kansas City).

" We picked up a lot of impact players that will fill many different roles," said Namazi.
