Boston Bruins Assign Four Players to Providence

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, announced today that the Boston Bruins have assigned goaltenders Mike Ayers and Mike Brown and left wings Cody McLeod and Peter Zingoni to Providence's training camp.

Ayers, 25, enters his second professional season. Last year, the Hingham, Massachusetts native split time between the ECHL's Dayton Bombers and the AHL's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks and Grand Rapids Griffins. In 54 games, Ayers had a 16-28-7 record with a 2.86 GAA. Prior to turning pro, the goaltender played four seasons of college hockey at the University of New Hampshire. In 102 career collegiate games, he had a 58-25-12 record with a 2.49 GAA and 12 shutouts. Following the 2001-02 season, Ayers was named a Hockey East Second Team All-Star and after his senior season was named co-winner of the Hockey East Player of the Year award, a Hockey East First Team All-Star and to the NCAA East All-American Team. He also led the league in games, minutes, wins and shutouts. Ayers was the Chicago Blackhawks' sixth pick, 177th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

Brown, 20, spent the past three seasons playing junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). The Syracuse, New York native began last season with the Saginaw Spirit before being traded halfway through the season to the Owen Sound Attack. In 149 career junior games, the goaltender posted a 46-83-11 record with a 3.26 GAA. Last season, he finished with a 24-28-5 record and a 3.00 GAA in 59 games. Brown was Boston's seventh pick, 153rd overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

McLeod, 21, spent the past four seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Portland Winter Hawks. In 257 career junior games, the Binscarth, Manitoba native recorded 137 points (69g, 68a) and 661 PIM. In 2004-05, he ranked second on his team in scoring with a career high 60 points (31g, 29a) in 70 games. After Portland was knocked out of the playoffs, McLeod joined the Adirondack Frostbite of the United Hockey League (UHL) for one scoreless regular season game and five scoreless playoff games.

Zingoni, 24, enters his second full professional season. Last season, the Bridgeport, Connecticut native played overseas in Germany and Finland tallying 29 points (20g, 9a) and 111 PIM in 37 games. Zingoni spent four seasons playing college hockey at Providence College where he had 81 points (34g, 47a) and 135 PIM in 127 career games. Once he finished his senior season at Providence, he joined the Syracuse Crunch for the end of the 2003-04 season, where he posted four points (2g, 2a) in five games. Zingoni was the Columbus Blue Jackets' eighth pick, 231st overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

The 2005-06 season opens up at home at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday, October 14th at 7:05 p.m. against the Portland Pirates. Training camp opens Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the Rhode Island Sports Center, on Route 146 in North Smithfield, RI.
