Idaho Steelheads News Release

Boise, ID - The Idaho Steelheads, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars and the AHL's Iowa Stars, announced today that forward Greg Hornby has agreed to terms for the 2005-2006 season.

As a rookie last season, Hornby totaled nine points and 122 penalty minutes in 54 regular season games for the ECHL's Florida Everblades. In seven playoff matches with the Everblades, Hornby was held scoreless, while posting six penalty minutes.

"He's the type of kid that is going to come in here and be an energy guy every night," Steelheads' head coach and director of hockey operations, Derek Laxdal said. "He came from one of the best college programs [at Cornell University]. Going to Florida last year and getting a chance to go to the [Kelly Cup] Finals is an experience that you can't teach. We're going to need that experience on a young hockey club."

The 23-year-old Hornby spent four seasons with the Big Red, tallying 32 points in 108 games in his collegiate career. As a senior in 2003-2004, the Nanaimo, British Columbia native received The Cornell Hockey Association Award, honoring "the player whose contribution to the team is not apparent in the box scores. His efforts are more clearly measured in enthusiasm, dedication, desire, and unselfish willingness to give to the team an extra ounce of energy."

Hornby joins rookies Tom Zabkowicz, Kevin Gardner and Sean Regan, as well as veteran forward Scott Burt, as the five players on the Steelheads roster for the upcoming campaign. The 2004 Kelly Cup Champions open the season at home on October 21 against the Long Beach Ice Dogs.

Steelheads' season ticket packages for the 2005-2006 campaign are on sale now! You can purchase tickets by calling 208-383-0080. A variety of packages are available, including Full Season Tickets, Flex Plans, Suite Rentals, Group Outings and a NEW 12-pack Weekend Mini Plan starting at just $169.
