Round Rock Express News Release
(Round Rock, TX) - Express starter Brandon Duckworth came into Sunday evening's game with New Orleans with a 2-2 record and a .417 batting average.
Duckworth's two-run homer in a four run, two homer second inning, led the way as Round Rock split its series with New Orleans, winning 6-4.
Duckworth went six and two thirds innings, surrendered three runs, including two solo homers, but got excellent defensive help from his entire defense to notch his third win on the season.
New Orleans actually took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single from LF Tyrell Godwin.
But the big, four run second inning for Round Rock set a tone for the night.
Zephyrs starter Donnie Bridges answered the two homer barrage in the top of the third inning with a solo shot of his own that led off the inning and made it a 4-2 Round Rock.
The Express left the bases loaded in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. But in that sixth inning, Round Rock put up two more runs on an RBI single by Carlos Rivera and a bases loaded walk to Todd Self that made it 6-2, E-Train.
New Orleans remained relentless. They picked up a solo homer from J.J. Davis in the sixth inning off Duckworth. Reliever Denny McDaniel gave up a run in the eighth, but McDaniel notched his first save and the Express won the game 6-4 and gained a series split.
The Express make a quick, four game road trip to Des Moines, IA to face the I-Cubs with a 7:05 PM start on Monday. The Express will return home to The Dell Diamond Friday, July 8 to take on the Nashville Sounds in a three game series.
