Lancaster Stormers News Release
The Lancaster Barnstormers held their first-ever jersey auction on Saturday and raised $11,325 for the Schreiber Pediatric Rehab Center of Lancaster County, as part of the evening's Beach Night festivities, it was announced on Monday.
During the auction, fans bid on special, beach-themed jerseys that were worn by the Barnstormers during their game against Bridgeport on Saturday night. Winning bidders had an opportunity to come down on the field following the game to have their jersey signed by, and picture taken with, Barnstormers players.
The highest individual selling price was $2,000 for OF Norm Hutchins jersey number 29. Hutchins hit a grand slam in the game and is currently leading the team and is fourth in the Atlantic League with a .343 average. Five jerseys sold for $1,000 or more.
"We were overwhelmed by the response and generosity of our fans," said Barnstormers General Manager Joe Pinto, who served as auctioneer during the live portion of the auction. "We are proud that we were able to help such a great cause and have a lot of fun in the process."
The Schreiber Pediatric Rehab Center is a not-for-profit organization that provides family-centered education and therapy programs for infants, children and adolescents with disabilities and developmental delays.
The Barnstormers will hold another jersey auction later in the season during "Tribute to the Red Roses" Day on September 23, when the team will be wearing old-fashioned Red Roses jerseys.
The Barnstormers conclude their current homestand with games against the Atlantic City Surf, Tonight-Wednesday. Clipper Magazine Stadium will host its second concert this Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. when Def Leppard and Bryan Adams come to town. Tickets are still available for all Barnstormers games and the concert by calling 717-509-3633, or by stopping by the stadium ticket office.
