September 28, 2004 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Maywood Buzz News Release

The Atrium Hotel in Irvine, California, set the stage on Monday afternoon for the Orange County "Crush" to sign former NBA player, Juaquin Hawkins. The O.C. "Crush" Partners and Coach Earl Cureton, feel that Hawkins is an integral part in the puzzle of putting together a championship team.

We're extremely happy that Hawkins is eager to showcase his unique talent with the Orange County "Crush", said Partners Copeland and Benson.

Hawkins played his college basketball at Long Beach State and after leaving school he signed with the Fort Wayne Fury of the CBA. Subsequently, Hawkins traveled across the world to play professional basketball in Japan, China, Taiwan and the Philippines.

Hawkins joined the ranks of the NBA in 2002, by signing with the Houston Rockets and in 2003 he signed with the Golden State Warriors. In 2004, Hawkins played in the ABA with the Long Beach Jam and helped lead the team to a championship title. He was also named ABA Defensive Player of the year in 2004.

Juaquin Hawkins is the beginning of something big, in terms of professional basketball in Orange County. With the likes of Hawkins, and the talented prospects to be signed, the O.C. "Crush" will definitely be the team to beat within the American Basketball Association.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
