Five players honored with monthly AFL awards

NEW YORK – San Jose SaberCats quarterback MARK GRIEB, Chicago Rush offensive/defensive lineman JOHN MOYER, New Orleans VooDoo fullback/linebacker DAN CURRAN, Orlando Predators quarterback JOE HAMILTON and Los Angeles Avengers kicker REMY HAMILTON have been named Real Deal Offensive Player, ADT Defensive Player, U.S. Army Ironman, Rookie, and Kicker of the Month, respectively, for February of the 2004 season.
Grieb (6-3, 208, UC Davis), in his seventh AFL season, earned Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Month by completing 45-of-57 (78.9%) passes for 568 yards, 14 TDs and no INTs for the SaberCats (3-0). The 2002 Offensive Player of the Year leads the AFL in passer rating (147.8). The former AggieÂ’ s standout performance came in the 61-55 victory over rival Los Angeles when he set a team record by completing 18-of-21 (85.7%) for 6 TDs and no INTs. This marks the second time (May 2002) Grieb has earned an AFL monthly honor.
Moyer (6-3, 265, Eastern Illinois), who is in his seventh AFL season, earned ADT Defensive Player of the Month honors by helping lead one of the AFLÂ’s top defenses (202.2 YPG, No. 1 in AFL) with his play during the month of February. The former Panther recorded 6.0 total tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks and recovered two fumbles for the Rush (4-0). The 2003 First-Team All-Arena performer was named ADT Defensive Player of the Week in Week 3 against Colorado. This marks the first time that Moyer has earned an AFL monthly honor.
Curran (6-0, 240, New Hampshire) earned U.S. Army Ironman of the Month by currently the leading the AFL with 96 rushing yards and eight rushing TDs. The four-year veteran averages two TDs per game this season. On defense, he recorded 5.5 tackles and forced a fumble from the “Mack”-linebacker spot. In the season opener at Philadelphia, he had five rushes for 45 yards with two TDs. In the home opener vs. Indiana in Week 2, Curran had two TDs, including a 2-yard TD run with no time remaining to spark a come-from-behind 41-40 victory. This marks the first time that Curran has earned an AFL monthly award.
Hamilton (5-10, 190, Georgia Tech) earned Rookie of the Month honors by leading the Predators (1-2) from the QB spot – taking over for current Orlando head coach and AFL Hall of Famer JAY GRUDEN. The former Yellow Jacket completed 65-of-102 (63.7%) passes for 753 yards, 15 TDs and no INTs in February. He also rushed five times for 13 yards and two TDs. This marks the first time that Hamilton has earned an AFL award.
Hamilton (6-1, 190, Michigan), who is in his seventh AFL season, helped lift the Avengers (2-2) with clutch kicking in February. The former Wolverine connected on 6-of-9 field goals and 28-of-29 extra point attempts. Remy's only field goal misses have been from 55, 56 and 60 yards out. This marks the first time that Hamilton has earned an AFL monthly honor.
