Ben Lasater scored on a throwing error by Nashville catcher Martin Maldonado in the bottom of the 12th inning, giving the New Orleans Zephyrs a 2-1 victory over the Sounds on Friday night at Zephyr Field.

A pitchers' duel that saw the teams combine for 25 strikeouts and just 11 hits finally came to a halt when the Zephyrs loaded the bases with one out in the 12th.

Scott Cousins walked to start off the inning. Bryan Petersen hit into a fielder's choice and advanced Petersen to third on Lasater's single. Nashville reliever Jim Henderson then intentionally walked Gil Velazquez to load the bases.

With the infield drawn in and left fielder Edwin Maysonet playing in front of the bag at second, Matt Dominguez hit a grounder to second baseman Eric Farris who threw home for one out, but Maldonado's throw to first sailed into right field allowing Lasater to score the winning run.

New Orleans starter Brad Hand made his Triple-A debut and yielded only an unearned run in five innings. He struck out seven and walked two. Nashville starter Mike Fiers matched Hand strikeout for strikeout, notching seven of his own in six innings.

Five Zephyrs relievers combined to hold Nashville to one hit over the final seven innings. Elih Villanueva (1-0) was credited with the win for working a scoreless 12th inning. Henderson (0-1) took the loss for the Sounds.

The Zephyrs and Sounds play the third game of the series on Saturday at 6pm. Left-hander Wade LeBlanc makes the start for New Orleans, facing Nashville right-hander Brian Baker.
