Fresno FC News Release

FRESNO, Calif. - Los Zorros mauled Phoenix Rising FC 4-0 on Saturday night, clawing their way into the USL Western Conference playoff picture. Collecting their third win in a row, Fresno FC (7W-7L-7D, 28 points) move above the playoff line and into eighth place, jumping Colorado Springs (7-10-4, 25 points) which lost 1-0 to Sacramento Republic FC in Week 18.

Christian Chaney opened the floodgates at the 25th minute, leaping over Phoenix's defense to head in a corner kick from Juan Pablo Caffa into the far post. It was the second goal in as many games for the Fresno native, and fourth of the season, that also ended Phoenix's shutout streak at 491 minutes.

Los Zorros then took a man-advantage at the 43rd minute as Phoenix midfielder Kevon Lambert was sent off for a brutal challenge in midfield on defender Ramon Martin Del Campo. It was the third booking of the half in a physical battle that would see five yellow cards and two reds given - the second ejection going to Fresno's Zach Ellis-Hayden in the 84th minute after picking up his second booking.

With that advantage, the Foxes came out firing in the second half, scoring three goals in nine minutes. Pedro Ribeiro got things going at the 63rd, connecting with midfielder Danny Barrera on a give-and-go before dribbling into the box and putting the finish in the low left corner. Caffa, already with an assist, added a goal four minutes later on a set piece from 20 yards out that sailed across the goal and into the low right corner. Moments later, Jose Cuevas assisted Jemal Johnson, who put it away first-touch for his team-best eighth goal of the season.

Fresno FC returns to action July 25, playing at OKC Energy FC to start a week-long roadtrip to the midwest. The club ends the trip July 28 at Tulsa Roughnecks FC, and return to California to play at Sacramento Republic FC on August 4.

Los Zorros play next at home on August 18 vs. Saint Louis FC. Tickets are available at tickets.fresnofc.com or the Chukchansi Park box office.
