WOODBRIDGE, Va. - Cinco De Mayo may end up being Jordan Zimmermann's new favorite holiday. On the same day he was officially promoted to Double-A Harrisburg, the right-hander was named the Carolina League's top pitcher for the week of April 28 through May 4.

In his lone appearance on the week this past Wednesday, the 21-year-old worked seven scoreless innings allowing only three singles and earning the win in a 1-0 shutout of Winston-Salem.

After suffering his only loss with the P-Nats against the Frederick Keys in his previous outing, the Auburndale, Wis., native rebounded by matching a career-high with nine strike outs and walking none, lowering his ERA to 1.65 - fourth-best in the Carolina League.

Zimmermann, Washington's second-round selection in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft, began his career with Short-Season Vermont in 2007 appearing in 13 games going 5-2 with a 2.38 ERA. His five wins ranked second on the team behind current Potomac Nationals right-hander Adrian Alaniz who won eight.
