Zephyrs partner with Expos

Metairie, LA --- The NEW ORLEANS ZEPHYRS have entered into a two-year Player Development Contract with the Expos.

The announcement was made jointly by Zephyrs Vice President and General Manager Dan Rajkowski and Expos Director of Player Development Adam Wogan.

"We feel that this is a great opportunity to partner with the Expos," said Don Beaver, New Orleans Zephyrs President and Owner. "The potential to get in on the front end of a new organization is very exciting for us."

The Expos have had one of the more successful Minor League Organizations over the past decade. The impressive run includes the Expos winning 5 League Championships in the past 9 years at Class AAA or Class AA.

The organization has an outstanding crop of young prospects and talent that will make their way to Zephyr Field in the next few seasons.

"The Expos have done an outstanding job of developing players over the years," said Rajkowski. "Expo General Manager Omar Minaya is one of the finest General Manager's in the business, and has a great reputation for providing a winning product on the field. I have also had the opportunity to spend some time with the Adam Wogan, Expos Director of Player Development and I believe in their philosophy of putting a quality product on the field."

Omar Minaya, Expos Vice President and General Manager, added, "I've heard many good things about New Orleans and the Zephyrs through the years. This is a PCL franchise whose facilities and community should go a long way in helping us build a top-notch player development program."

"With New Orleans and Zephyr Field, we are afforded access to a first-class city and a first-rate facility, the combination of which we feel in unrivaled in Triple-A baseball. I'd like to welcome Don Beaver, Dan Rajkowski, the Zephyrs front office and the community of New Orleans to the Expos family."

The Expos will provide the players and coaching personnel for the Zephyrs. The 2005 coaching staff will be announced later this fall.

The new affiliation for the Zephyrs will be the third affiliate in the franchise history. The club was affiliated with Milwaukee from 1993-1996 (279-293) and with the Astros from 1997-2004 (567-572).
