Metairie, LA --- Zephyr Field was host to the Light the Night evening walk and fundraiser last Friday, which benefited The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, whose mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
A crowd of over 350 turned out in support, at an event that also featured music, food and family activities. Walkers each carried an illuminated balloon - white for survivors of cancer and red for supporters.
"Despite the weather, it was a fabulous turnout," said Karla Couvillion, Campaign Coordinator for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. "Everyone who participated did a great job, and they all enjoyed the fact that it was held at Zephyr Field. Hopefully we will be able to hold this event here next year as well."
"We were pleased to host such a great event," said Marc Allen, Zephyrs Director of Community Relations. "The Zephyrs feel a great responsibility to give back to our community, and were especially excited to be able to provide a venue for such a worthy fundraiser."
This is the fourth Light the Night event that has been held. This year's event raised more than $55,000 that will go toward cancer research and patient support.
The Zephyrs home opener is Friday, April 15th. To purchase tickets, please call the Zephyrs ticket office at (504) 734-5155.
