Yuma Scorpions News Release

YUMA, Ariz. -- Jeff LaRue's seventh-inning home run was the difference in a 5-4 win for the Long Beach Armada over the Yuma Scorpions on Wednesday night at Blair Field.

Yuma starting pitcher Steve Soja pitched 6 2/3 innings before allowing the home run that broke the Scorpions' four-game winning streak and left them 11-2 before a five-game series in Orange County starting tonight.

The veteran right hander struck out seven before being handed his first loss of the season (2-1).

The Scorpions started off the game strong with two runs in the first inning as Mike Goss scored after a lead-off double and Henry Calderon's RBI single. Rich Janeway scored the second run on a double-play ball from Maikel Jova,

Long Beach tied the game up in the third inning as Chris Wakeland and Jaime Martinez drove in runners on RBI singles.

Martinez led the Armada with a 3-for-5 evening that included two RBIs and a run scored on LaRue's home run.

Yuma regained the lead in the sixth inning as Goss scored his second run on a Calderon double down the left-field line.

Calderon was 3 for 4 with two RBIs but was caught stealing at second base in the top of the eighth inning, squandering the Scorpions' final opportunity to score.

Yuma will face the Flyers at 7:05 p.m. tonight. The game will be broadcast on KBLU 560 AM in Yuma as well as yumascorpions.com
