Yuma Scorpions Sign ex-Colorado Rockie Mike Esposito

(Dublin, CA. April 23, 2008) The Yuma Scorpions of the Golden Baseball League (GBL) announced today that they have agreed to terms with RHP Mike Esposito for the upcoming 2008 season. A native of Los Angelese and graduate of Arizona State in the Phoenix area, Exposito will join a veteran staff of starters that includes the reigning GBL E.R.A. champion lefty Roger Luque and Yuma's all-time leader in wins and strikeouts, righty Jorge Perez.

"I am thrilled to have Mike Espositio as a member of the Yuma Scorpions this season," said Yuma Manager Mike Marshall. "He's been a dominant player at every level and it will be exciting for the league and our fans to have him on the mound."

Esposito, 26, was signed in the 5th round of the 1998 draft out of high school by the Cincinnati Reds, but elected to play collegiate ball at Arizona State University. He posted a record of 15-8 over three years and was drafted in the 12th round by the Colorado Rockies after his junior year that saw him lead the Sun Devils in almost every pitching category and being ranked the #8 pitching prospect by Baseball America. He shot through the Rockies farm system spending just one year in High-A and Double-A before being prmoted from Triple-A to the big league club at the end of 2005. He spent the next two years at Triple-A Colorado Springs both as a starter and reliever.
