Yuma Scorpions News Release

(Dublin, CA. November 12, 2008) The Golden Baseball League (GBL) announced today that Yuma Scorpion shortstop Ryan Barbas has had his contract purchased by the Atlanta Braves of the National League.

"Ryan was outstanding for us all season, anchoring our infield and really contributing to the offense," said Yuma Scorpion Manager and former Dodger great Mike Marshall. "Ryan was great defensively, but really surprised us with his bat and showed great discipline at the plate. He will do very well in the Braves organization."

Barba, 23, 6-1, 185 lbs is an infielderwho signed as a fee agent with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2006 after completing a collegiate career at the University of New Mexico where he was a four year starter for the Lobos. In two years, the Brewers promoted him twice as he reached the high-A Florida State League in 2007, but was never given the opportunity to be an everyday starter. Released in 2008, he joined a veteran Yuma Scorpions club and won the starting shortstop position. During the season he hit .316 in 72 games as he drove in 47 runs and scored 41 times.

Barba is the second 2008 Yuma Scorpions player acquired by a major league organization this year and is the 24th GBL player from 2008 rosters to go to big league clubs.
