Yepez to Columbus, Powell re-joins P-Nats

WOODBRIDGE, Va.- Infielder Marcos Yepez will not celebrate Opening Day with the Potomac Nationals for the third straight year afterall. Late Tuesday night the 25-year old learned that he will be heading to Triple-A Columbus to join the Clippers, taking infielder D'Angelo Jimenez's place prior to the start of the 2007 season.

The move comes a day after the Washington Nationals placed shortstop Christian Guzman on the 15-day disabled list as a result of a left hamstring strain. The club promoted Jimenez from Columbus of the International League.

The Washington Nationals also signed infielder Brandon Powell as a Minor League free agent. Powell, who was recently released by the San Diego Padres after being selected in the Rule 5 draft in December, will take Yepez's place on the Potomac Nationals 25-man roster. In 2006, the 26-year old led the P-Nats in batting average (.280), hits (129), doubles (34), total bases (213) and stolen bases (30). He was named the Potomac Nationals player of the year for his efforts.

The P-Nats kick off the 2007 season on the road against the Lynchburg Hillcats on April 5th and celebrate Opening Day at Pfitzner Stadium on April 9th against the Salem Avalanche.
