JUPITER, FL - Two of the Miami Marlins' top prospects have been selected to participate in the MLB Futures Game during All-Star Weekend in Kansas City. The Futures Game will be played on Sunday, July 8 at Kaufmann Stadium. OF Christian Yelich is on the United States squad while RHP Jose Fernandez will represent Cuba on the World Team. Just today, Fernandez was promoted to join Yelich on the Advanced-A Jupiter Hammerheads.

Yelich was a first round pick (23rd overall) by the Marlins in 2010 and was named their #1 prospect entering the 2012 season. Despite missing time with two DL stints this year, he is second on the Hammerheads with seven home runs, 12 doubles and 12 stolen bases. He is batting .274 in 47 games with Jupiter.

Fernandez was the Marlins' first round pick (14th overall) in last year's draft. A native of Santa Clara, Cuba, he is ranked as Miami's #3 prospect by both Baseball America and MLB.com. He went a perfect 7-0 with a 1.59 ERA in 14 starts this season with Greensboro. In 79 innings pitched he struck out 99 batters while only walking 18.

Both players, who are only 19 years old, were named first half All-Stars in their respective leagues. Yelich was named to the Florida State League All-Star roster but did not participate as he was on the disabled list recovering from a concussion. Fernandez started for the Northern Division and pitched a scoreless frame with one strikeout.

Yelich was named the FSL Player of the Week for April 16-22. It was his first week of action after missing Jupiter's first nine games with an elbow contusion. Yelich hit an even .500 (10-for-20) that week with two homers, two triples and a pair of doubles. He had five RBI and seven runs scored. Fernandez was twice named SAL Pitcher of the Week this season.
