Jupiter Hammerheads News Release

JUPITER, FL - The Miami Marlins have announced today that RHP Jose Fernandez has been promoted to Advance-A Jupiter. Yesterday, LHP Adam Conley was added to the Jupiter Hammerheads roster. Both pitchers join the Hammerheads rotation after being named first half 2012 All-Stars in the South Atlantic League with the Greensboro Grasshoppers.

The 19-year old Fernandez, was selected in the first round (14th overall) by the Marlins in last year's draft. A native of Santa Clara, Cuba, Fernandez is ranked as Miami's number three prospect by both Baseball America and MLB.com. He went a perfect 7-0 with a 1.59 ERA in 14 starts this season with Greensboro. In 79 innings pitched he struck out 99 batters while only walking 18.

The southpaw, Conley, went 7-3 with a 2.78 ERA in 14 starts for the Grasshoppers. In 74.1 innings of work, he struck out 84 and issued just 24 walks. The 22-year old was a second round pick of the Marlins in 2011. Conley is rated as Miami's number seven prospect by MLB.com and is listed tenth by Baseball America.

The corresponding moves for Jupiter were placing OF Michael Main on the disabled list and RHP Alan Oaks being promoted to Double-A Jacksonville.

Fernandez will wear #16 and Conley will sport #37. The Hammerheads are currently in Lakeland awaiting the start of their four-game series against the Flying Tigers as the first two games have been postponed due to rain caused by Tropical Storm Debby. They are tentatively scheduled to play a pair of 7-inning doubleheaders on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Conley is expected to start game two tomorrow with Fernandez taking the hill in game one on Wednesday.
